The
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (
CMS) and
HHS finalized a final rule that implements the provisionsof the
American Recovery andReinvestment Act of 2009 (
ARRA) (Pub. L. 111-5) that provide incentive payments to

EPs), eligible hospitals andcritical access hospitals (CAHs) participating in
Medicare and
Medicaid programs that adopt and successfully demonstrate meaningful use of

EHR) technology.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (
HHS) announced the names of two technology review bodies, Certification Commission for
Health Information Technology (
CCHIT), Chicago, Ill. and the
Drummond Group Inc. (
DGI), Austin, Texas, They have beenauthorized to test and certify electronic health record (
EHR) systems for compliance with the standardsand certification criteria that were issued by
HHS earlier this year.
